A CHINESE national has pleaded guilty to failing to declare about $141,000 cash that was found hidden in two large suitcases when she entered the country last week.
Appearing at the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday, 24-year-old Fan Wang of Lang Fang Hebei in China, admitted to carrying $US80,000 in two suitcases when she boarded an Air Korean flight to Fiji.
According to the court, Ms Fan was stopped at the arrivals desk by a Customs officer who noticed the Chinese national behaving suspiciously.
The court then heard that the Customs officer referred Ms Fan to another officer who searched her luggage.
During the search, the officer found hidden under her clothes four bundles of one hundred $US100 notes.
The officer also discovered a similar amount of cash hidden in the second suitcase carried by the accused.
Together, eight bundles of the $US100 notes was found on the accused.
While appearing in court, police prosecutor ASP Anil Prasad said Ms Fan's case was serious and warranted a punishment of a large fine or imprisonment.
Magistrate Peni Dalituicama adjourned the case to October 8 for sentencing.
Mr Dalituicama also ordered that Ms Fan be placed on a $1500 bail and to surrender all her travel documents to the court. A stop departure order was also issued by the court.
