FIFTEEN teachers from 14 schools in Macuata and Bua excused themselves from classes to evaluate the projects of their students at a moderation workshop in Labasa yesterday.
Facilitated by the Education Ministry's curriculum development unit (CDU) and technical vocational and education training (TVET), the evaluation is a continuing program aimed at assisting officials with marking the projects.
Facilitator and senior education officer Seruwaia Raile said the workshop was usually conducted in the third term.
"The moderation is done according to subjects, and today the teachers are moderating computer, office technologies and iTaukei projects," Ms Raile said.
"Our focus is on the North this week and after this, we will move down to Savusavu and later to Taveuni.
"The teachers will not only examine the projects of their students, but will also have a look at the projects of students from other schools."
Ms Raile said once this was completed, the projects would be sent to Suva where they would be revised again before marks were given according to the national average.
"This had been the practice over the past years because it ensures transparency and accountability."
