A RAKIRAKI man convicted of arson has served his time of 15 months behind bars while in remand for the crime he committed on Christmas day three years ago.
The High Court in Lautoka imprisoned Immanuel Kuldip Singh for a crime that he confessed to on September 11 this year.
The court heard that on December 25 in 2010, Singh and another suspect burnt the vacant home of one Prem Chand of Korotale in Rakiraki.
The corrugated iron house was destroyed with damage amounting to about $60,000.
While sentencing the accused, Justice Sudharshana de Silva deducted time from the original sentence stating that Singh was a first offender and he was the sole breadwinner for his family.
He said Singh had served the full 15 months when he was remanded in prison in 2010.
He was released yesterday after the sentence was delivered.
