STUDENTS Ruby Sandy and Adi Maraia Mataitini both attend Tavua District Secondary School.
And they are among the seven contestants vying for the 2013 Vodafone Gold and Water Carnival crown.
The sixth formers are 17 years old and both have a common passion, advocating on issues affecting youths of this country.
Miss Sandy, whose father hails from England, has maternal links to Korovou in Ba.
"I joined this pageant to make a difference," she said.
"I will be advocating on teenage pregnancies.
"I chose this topic because it's a problem that many people face."
On the other hand, Adi Maraia said she wanted to emphasise to youths the importance of proper decision making.
"For me, one of the hardest part of this pageant will be competing against the other girls."
Miss Sandy and Adi Maraia are sponsored by Vinod Patel and Tavualevu Village, respectively.
The carnival kicks off this Wednesday at Garvey Park.
