RECOGNISING their skills and talents, members of the Manavure Arts Women's Group in Savusavu organised a fashion show on Friday night with models showcasing a fusion of traditional and modern designs.
The show, a first of its kind in the area, attracted an enthusiastic crowd who cheered the models on throughout the night.
There were seven winners out of the nine designers who participated in the show.
The seven will represent Savusavu at a proposed fashion show in Suva next month.
One of the winners, Sainimere Raikadroka, said she was thrilled with her artwork.
"I incorporated the design of the sun, bure, pearls and turtles in my costumes because I wanted it to look traditional and a bit modern," Ms Raikadroka said.
"It was hard work trying to put together a piece of artwork but I am happy that my tireless efforts have been recognised.
"This is really an opportunity for us to showcase our strengths as emerging designers."
