THE Jet Runners Club of Nadi may have found the next Isireli Naikelekelevesi.
Barefoot runner Ratu Vuki George came third in the Cross Country Road Race on Saturday at the Korovuto College in Nadi.
He ran a time of 24 minutes and one second in the six kilometre category and his performance has drawn praise from Jet Runners Club president Abhinesh Kumar.
He said the Form Five student competed without training, without shoes or any other proper gear on the gravel and cane field roads.
"I pick him as our next Naikelekelevesi because his style of running is perfect and I want him to race more," Kumar said.
"This morning (yesterday) I talked to Isireli Naikelekelevesi on Facebook and by watching his photos he wants to support him and I think Vuki has good future and I want to look after him well."
Naikelekelevesi needs no introduction as his antics on the race tracks has brought glory and fame to Fiji in yester years.
Kumar said he is looking forward to visiting George and his family to talk about his potential and ambitions.
Meanwhile, the race on Saturday was hailed a success and the results and photos will be sent to Athletics Fiji and Oceania Athletics.
"I hope this will go to International Athletics Federation because according to my research, no one in the world has hosted a cross country race in the cane fields.
"The Jet Runners Club is the only runners club in Fiji and we are trying to look for the best resources for our runners and young talents like Vuki will benefit through running."
