THE Fiji Rugby Union is impressed with the progress of the Indo Fijian rugby.
This follows the success of the 2013 Rosy Hearts Fiji-Indo Rugby 7s which was held at the USP grounds yesterday.
Tournament hosts Wainivula Eels won the day-long event thrashing Nakasi Highlanders 31-0 in the final to take home the $200 prizemoney and a trophy sponsored by SportsWorld.
FRU official Solo Finau, who assisted in the running of the tournament, was impressed with the performance of the players.
He said the future for Fiji Indo rugby looked good .
"Before there was a lot of kick and chase and cat and mouse game but now they have employed more physical play," Finau said.
"At least the top four teams that played in the cup semis showed what they are capable of and in the near future they can compete with the regulars."
Finau thanked the major sponsor Rosy Hearts and other corporate bodies that supported the revival of Fiji Indo rugby.
Meanwhile, tournament co-ordinator Alvin Nair was happy with the competition level.
Nabua and Alchoballics were the only teams that failed to turn up leaving eight teams to participate in the tournament.
Lautoka won the Plate final beating Ba 10-5 while the Bowl competition was won by Nadi which defeated Uni Babas 12-10
