INOKE Ligairi in the new Mr Suva.

The 34-year-old won the title yesterday at the Fiji Arts Club in Suva following an impressive performance in the bodybuilding competition.

A total of 17 builders participated in the event and Bodybuilding Fiji vice president Patrick Fenn said only one competitor was from the West.

"Since defending champion Onisivoro Koroi was not allowed to participate, we knew a new champion would be crowned," he said.

"We just couldn't predict who it would be until the competition began.

"So Inoke Ligairi won the under 85kg category and the overall title."

Fenn said the competition standard was higher compared to what was expected.

"The last competition we had was in May so we were expecting competition here to be weak but it was not.

"The competitors have put in a lot of effort and it was good performance from all those who took part."

The competition was used to select a team for the Oceania Championship that would be held in Tonga next month.

"We will release the names next week and for now we would like to ask the competitors to continue their training.

"This is because the Mr Fiji competition will be held in November and we would like to see the builders maintain their form."

Winners: 70kg - Nilesh Chand, 75kg - Jekesoni Yanuyanudrau, U-80kg - Lenitasi Biliwaqa, U-85kg - Inoke Ligairi, 90kg - Voniriti Radua.
