CHILDREN at Rishikul Primary School in Nadera celebrated after receiving 40 new laptops through the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project.
School headteacher Rita Prasad said the project was initiated by the Ministry of Education.
"It was approved by the Cabinet in 2012 and we are the second lot of schools selected, receiving 40 laptops," she said.
Fifteen schools have received laptops in this recent wave of handouts and selection was primarily based on the social and economic background of their students.
The other criteria was that the schools involved agreed to form a partnership with the ministry, preparing the laptop room with the necessary facilities in return for the laptops, a server and air-conditioning.
"It will give an opportunity to our children to get acquainted with the technology, but mostly it is about education."
