MORE than 100 runners are expected to participate in the second Cross Country Race of the year in Nadi.
Eighty runners competed in the event last year at Korovuto College and organisers are expecting more competitors this time.
Jet Runners Club president Abhinesh Kumar said since they had introduced the children's category in the 500 metres, more runners are sure to come.
"For adults, we have the 1km, 2km, 3km, 4km and 6km categories," he said.
"We are expecting more runners now that we have introduced the 500m race for kids."
He added defending champion Avikash Lal would compete in the 6km event in a bid to retain his title.
"The Cross Country race started the in 1800s in England and last year we brought it to encourage kids, youths and other stakeholders in running.
"Tomorrow's (today's) race course is very interesting.
"It will start from Korovuto College ground and will see runners go through the cane fields.
"This is something new the Jet Runners Club is trying to tell and encourage the people of Fiji that we can run."
