YAT Sen Secondary School last week honoured its students who impressed on the sporting arena.
At its awards night last Saturday, the school recognised some of its top athletes such as Matelita Buadromo, Yun Ying Tung and Brooke Smith who not only represented the school but Fiji internationally.
The trio received certificates for their participation.
Buadromo, Salote Racule (basketball), Ying Tung (badminton), Michael Yam and Lameko Taomia (volleyball) were named best athletes in respective sports they took part in.
Sports chairperson and schoolteacher Visenia Nawalu Khan said the school's sports committee organised the event to thank all parents, guardians, coaches and teachers for their contribution and support towards sports.
"During the awards night, we wanted to recognise the students for their contribution in sports," she said.
"Some of our athletes represented the country and we salute them for being Fiji reps. We also recognised students who showed improvement in sports."
The school introduced three new awards this year — Most Responsible Team of the Year, Most Outstanding Academic Athlete of the Year and the Team of the Year awards.
Buadromo's swim team won the Team of the Year award. They won 21 gold medals at the National Schools Swimming Championship.
Pacific Mini Games gold medallist Shayne and Torika Brodie were chief guests at the event.
Khan thanked all sponsors and contributors, especially the athletes for gracing the event with their presence.
