TAIWAN head of trade mission to Fiji Jane Cheng believes the diversification of industries is the way to go for economic growth.
In an interview with this newspaper, Ms Cheng said even the sugar industry could be diversified.
"Just don't plant sugar cane. We need to look at other avenues as this is the global trend nowadays, which is to diversify and look at other avenues," she said.
"In Taiwan, we plant sugar cane as well. We also have a tourism industry and we diversify with medical.
"So we call it medical tourism and it is attracting people. It has a huge market and countries like Singapore and Korea are offering it as well but Taiwan is offering it at a cheaper rate."
Ms Cheng said the medical tourism package offered the best medical treatment to visitors. She said cosmetic treatment, under the same package in Taiwan, also received world attraction.
"One of the products Fiji makes is virgin coconut oil and I have tried the local product as well and it is good."
