A CAREERS fair hosted by the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa yesterday brought together final year students from the USP's hotel management program and human resource representatives from resorts across the country.
The fair provided a platform for employers to identify young talent and offer graduates an opportunity to start their career with reputable properties.
The success of the program was highlighted when third-year hotel management student Verenaisi Iowane was awarded InterContinental Fiji's employee of the month for July.
Ms Iowane caught the eye of InterContinental Fiji management last year and was recruited for a one-year internship with the multi-award winning resort.
InterContinental Fiji's human resources manager Mohammed Feroz said the resort's commitment to staff development was exemplified by a careers week organised recently for all employees.
The staff learnt valuable skills such as composing curriculum vitae and were also informed of personal development programs, mentoring and internal cross-training programs.
"Events such as the USP careers fair and the IHG careers week provide a platform for graduates and employees to access the resources that facilitate their career advancement in the tourism industry," said Mr Feroz.
