TAIWANESE Ambassador Jane Cheng believes the North has great potential for economic growth and development.
In her first official visit to the division this week since taking up the post of ambassador, Ms Cheng said the abundance of resources from marine to forestry and the beautiful tourist attractions provided a platform for economic growth and development.
"The resources are a luxury and it is something that can be developed and turned into income-generating projects for the people of the North and the government," she said.
"This is my first trip to Vanua Levu after talking with my president back home who told me to come to the North and see which areas the Taiwan Government can assist the Fijian Government in terms of development.
"I can see there is great potential here and I have also been told by my president to look at development projects and see what we can do with the Fijian Government."
Ms Cheng said she was interested in working with the government to achieve the Look North Policy.
"I certainly am interested in the Look North Policy and would like to be a part of that," she said.
"Even tourism has huge potential here in the North considering the landscape in Savusavu and other attractions that tourists love to see."
Ms Cheng said she would visit Vanua Levu again to meet government officials as a follow-up.
