SHORTLAND Street star Teuila Blakely, better known on the hit TV show as Vasa Levi, will take to the catwalk for an established designer at the upcoming MHCC Fiji Fashion Week.
FJFW public relations manager Lice Movono-Rova confirmed that the New Zealand actress, who is of Samoan descent, is the brand ambassador for Polynesian fashion house MENA that will be showcasing its garments at the event for the second time.
She said Ms Blakely would turn out for MENA during the Oceanic Established Designers Show on October 5 at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
In a statement from FJFW, MENA spokesperson Agnes Loheni, one of the sisters who founded the popular brand, said they were excited to be able to confirm Ms Blakely's availability.
Ms Loheni said they were also excited that the actress was aware of the work the show organisers do and was only too happy to be a part of it.
This will be Ms Blakely's first trip to Fiji.
"We were absolutely thrilled when Teuila confirmed her availability to model for us at FJFW. She found out we were doing FJFW again and jumped at the chance to be a part of it. It really just came down to her availability from her busy Shortland Street filming schedule," Ms Loheni said.
"We've known Teuila for a few years. Teuila would often gravitate to our showroom where she can find a special dress that not only reflects her Polynesian heritage but also fashionable, contemporary and feminine.
"Over the years, we've dressed Teuila for magazine shoots, movie premieres and TV Award Nights."
Ms Loheni said Teuila was an easy fit for their brand because of her personality, something which has made her Shortland Street character a more prominent one as well.
