A RAKIRAKI teacher has been charged for the alleged assault of a six-year-old student.
According to the police, the teacher allegedly assaulted the student on three occasions.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said in a statement released yesterday that the teacher was charged with one count of assault.
She said the woman was granted bail and was scheduled to reappear in the Rakiraki Magistrates Court on October 16.
This is the second alleged incident of assault in the Western Division in which schoolchildren were involved. The other incident involved 10 students of Natabua High School who were allegedly assaulted by senior students for their sexual orientation.
The incident sparked an official investigation by the Ministry of Education and the police.
Meanwhile, the teacher who allegedly assaulted a Class Eight student in Savusavu early this week was interviewed under caution.
Ms Naisoro said investigations would continue.
She had earlier said the student experienced severe headaches and vomiting after the alleged incident.
"The student was medically treated and is now back in school."
