TAIWANESE ambassador Jane Cheng visited government projects in the North this week beginning in Savusavu.
Her first official tour of Vanua Levu since taking up her post is to help her gather information from stakeholders about how her government could assist with development.
Ms Cheng's familiarisation tour took in a Savusavu special school and a home.
At the Savusavu Special School, Ms Cheng encouraged the students to work hard in school.
School headteacher Maria Qilatabu told Ms Cheng the school was supported by the government.
"This school caters for students who are disabled and for those who also suffer from other disorders like slow learners," she said.
"We have a total roll of 35 students and we also have a prevocational class for bigger students.
"This is where they learn to sew and do other handicraft before they move on to higher education."
Mrs Qilatabu said prevocational students who attended the school last year were at home continuing with their sewing and handicraft work.
Ms Cheng also gave clothes to the school.
