THE Methodist Church of Fiji and Rotuma is calling for support after it yesterday launched the Sigatoka Methodist Primary School fire appeal.
Church president Reverend Tuikilakila Waqairatu said the reconstruction of the school would cost at least half a million dollars.
"The cost is staggering but we are determined to ensure that the children of Sigatoka Methodist Primary School will be able to begin the 2014 school year in their new classrooms," Mr Waqairatu said.
Last week, 13 classrooms, a multi-purpose hall and teachers quarters were razed in an early morning fire.
"We are launching this appeal for both the Methodist community in Fiji and abroad, and to the wider community in Fiji."
He thanked the donors who had already contributed towards the cause, including Veiuto Primary School, the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha and Tappoos.
Methodist Church secretary for Education Reverend Josefa Katonibau said about $20,000 had already been collected.
He also acknowledged Sigatoka Methodist College, Sigatoka High, St Joan of Arc and Sigatoka District School for opening their classrooms to the students affected.
Those wishing to give towards the cause can send money to the Sigatoka Methodist Primary School Fire Appeal, Westpac account number 8904669126.
