THE Fiji Football Association is likely to increase its grant for the Fiji Primary School Football Association Inter-District Championship next year.
The parent body handed a cheque for $6000 to the FPSFA during the opening ceremony of the IDC at the Lautoka Central School grounds yesterday.
Fiji FA vice president and national team director Tarunesh Reddy said they were serious about developing soccer at the grassroots level.
"I would like to thank the Lautoka Primary School Football Association for hosting the event here after a lapse of 11 years," Reddy said.
"We will continue supporting this IDC and hope to increase the sponsorship from next year provided the association plays its part in promoting the sport in the right manner."
Lautoka Primary School Football Association president Hirdesh Kumar said a lot of sacrifices had been made by the players, teachers and coaches to get to this tournament.
He said the interest in the sport was increasing each year.
Defending under-14 champion Tavua made a bright start with a 2-0 victory against Tailevu. Host Lautoka recorded two wins beating Dreketi 3-0 and Rakiraki 1-0.
Defending U12 champion Ba surprisingly went down to Nasinu 0-1. The side earlier defeated Labasa 2-1.
FPSFA secretary Narendra Rao thanked CK's Ezy Buy of Suva for contributing six new trophies this year.
