PAPUA New Guinea is the first overseas side to arrive in the country for the Fiji Water Centennial International 7s tournament which will be held next month.
The Pukpuks side, coached by Warren Jennings, hopes to acclimatise to the conditions in Fiji and feature strongly in the Oceania 7s which will run simultaneously with the Centennial 7s.
The side wants to finish well in the regional event in order to boost its chances of qualifying for the Commonwealth Games and the Hong Kong 7s next year.
Alongside PNG, hosts Fiji, defending champions Australia, Samoa, American Samoa, Solomon Islands, Cook Islands and Tuvalu will be playing in the Oceania 7s tournament.
Argentina, France and USA are the other teams confirmed to participate in the tournament while the rest of the teams that were supposed to participate pulled out over the past few days.
The Centennial 7s will be held on October 4 and 5 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
