THE Lautoka Advisory Council has begun community information programs in rural communities in collaboration with the Fiji Police Force, the military and other State organisations.
Council chairman Faiaaz Ali said the information sessions began yesterday.
He said the meetings with members of the rural communities were to ensure residents were aware of the government services available to them.
"We are working closely with state officials and we will be going out to all these areas to talk about government's new policies and especially focus on those that concern them."
He said people needed to be educated about the various assistance programs available through Social Welfare and other arms of the government machinery.
"We will also have people from various government departments who will talk about all of these services and, more importantly, the kind of criteria that people need to adhere to when applying for this assistance."
The group will be at Drasa Primary School on Thursday evening.
