GIRL Guides of two primary schools in Labasa took advantage of the fine weather to hold a one-night camp at Korovatu Beach outside Labasa.
Guide leader Kelera Liga said the camp was a requirement of the club as part of members' transition within the club ranks known as the Trefoils.
Mrs Liga said they arrived at the beach on Friday afternoon and were glad fine weather enabled them to proceed with camp plans.
"The camp consisted of four Guide leaders and 67 children from Holy Family Primary and Nabekavu Primary schools," she said.
Police officers from the Labasa Police Station kept guard overnight at the camp.
"Last night (Sunday), we sat around in groups carrying out weaving and craft lessons by the light of an open camp fire."
Mrs Liga said they managed to complete their doormat weaving lessons yesterday morning.
"We were also part of a water safety exercise which was carried out by National Fire Authority personnel.
"We are now ready to pack up and wave goodbye to this nice beach after completing our lessons.
"This has also been a good breather for our club members as they escaped the daily weekend routines back in their homes."
