SENIOR citizens deserve the love and respect from members of the community, says reigning Miss Sugar Rozia Shainaz.
She was visiting the Golden Age Home with workmates and last year's sponsor, South Seas Cruises yesterday.
Ms Shainaz said elderly citizens played a huge role in the development of the country and it was important for the younger generation to appreciate them.
"I represented South Seas Cruises and as part of our project we do voluntary work here at the Golden Age Home and also at the Western Disabled People," she said.
The group donated wheelchairs, crutches and food to the residents and also painted and decorated the building before helping out on the farm.
"Some of these residents are hardly visited by their loved ones and this kind of visit makes them realise that they are loved and cared for by people," Golden Age Home superintendent Tara Naresh said.
"It really means a lot to the residents and we are so thankful to South Seas for taking time out to assist the old citizens."
