THE Public Affairs Office at the US Embassy hosted a training workshop for 20 Fijian librarian professionals and teachers.
Visiting regional information resource officer and a professional librarian Alka Bhatnagar conducted the information skills training for librarians, teachers and information specialists.
Ms Bhatnagar shared her expertise and extensive experiences in the profession, and spoke on new library trends, information literacy, as well as present on the new eLibraryUSA database.
"Globally, we have 851 American spaces which are managed by 23 information resource officers, whose specialty is libraries, and the US embassies in the country they are located in," she said.
She said those spaces basically provided the service platforms to engage the foreign public about the US by offering information resources and opportunities for cultural exchanges.
Ms Bhatnagar also stressed the need for librarians to network in order to create more awareness on the economics and current trends they faced as information specialists.
Ms Bhatnagar said libraries are defined by the 4Ps — policies, place, people and products — and those changed according to customer needs.
