HOSTS of this year's Sukuna Bowl competition, the Fiji Police Force, received a major sponsorship boost for the annual event.
Yesterday, BSP Life handed over a cheque worth $35,000 to the organising committee.
Organiser Assistant Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu said the competition week would begin on December 3 and the main rugby match would be played on December 6 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
He added boxing, netball, volleyball, soccer and tug of war would be other sports to be held during the competition week.
"We are very thankful to BSP Life for coming forward to provide us financial assistance for the Sukuna Bowl," Tudravu said.
"There are other sponsors who have shown interest in assisting us and all the money that we receive will go towards the preparations and post mortem of the competition.
"We will have to pay for the venues that we use for the competitions also we will need to arrange everything to be ready for the competition and then when the competition is over we will have an after-match function for the families and the players who were involved."
BSP Life General Manager Marketing and Distribution, Michael Nacola said this was the second year for them to be involved with the Sukuna Bowl.
"The Sukuna Bowl event is indeed an anticipated calendar event not only for members of the disciplined forces but our community at large and all those who love rugby," he said.
"Just as the Melbourne Cup stops a nation in Australia, the Sukuna Bowl rugby challenge stops the nation of Fiji."
