MEMBERS of the Tuatua Gayatri Sita Ram Mandir in Labasa were in shock after their temple was razed in an afternoon fire yesterday.
NFA CEO John O'Connor confirmed the incident saying they received a call at 1.18pm where officers responded immediately to the emergency.
"When the officers arrived, the temple was already on fire.
"They managed to control it from spreading.
"Investigation into the matter continues," he said.
Mandir president Din Dayal said he was at his home, a few kilometres away from the temple, when he was told that the fire had broken out.
"A man who walked past the temple came to inform me at home.
"When we came to the site, there was nothing we could do as the fire had engulfed the building," Mr Dayal said.
"Right now, we can't ascertain the cost of damage.
"The members will have to sit and discuss this evening on what we will do to our house of worship."
