Update: 4:23PM POLICE believe that an electrical fault could have caused the fire at the Sigatoka Methodist Primary School early Monday morning.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said investigators have uplifted the sub-meter box from the school premises.
"And at this initial stage we believe the fire that destroyed part of the school could have been a result of an electrical fault," she said.
Damage is estimated at more than $500,000. A head teachers quarters, 13 classrooms and the multi-purpose hall were destroyed during the incident.
