Update: 11:30AM EXPECT to see Paralympic Games gold medallist Iliesa Delana on the new 50 cent commemorative coin when it comes into circulation from today.
The new coin was unveiled by Reserve Bank of Fiji governor Barry Whiteside this morning in Suva and featured the London 2012 Paralympic Games champion in action winning the gold medal during the F42 high jump event.
"This is the first time that we have featured a sportsperson on our coins. We have had them on stamps but never on a circulation coin," Mr Whiteside said.
He said the bank produced a limited number of coins for circulation and this could be used to pay for goods and services or kept as a collector's item.
Mr Delana said the recognition was overwhelming and dedicated his win to the Almighty, his family, friends, coach, sponsors and the people of Fiji.
