BA is the birthplace of rugby in Fiji. According to Fiji Rugby Union history the sport was first played in the 1880s by European and Fijian soldiers of the Native Constabulary in Ba.
Despite this fact soccer is the number one sport in Ba.
However the Ba Rugby Union is hoping to take the sport to greater heights.
Last Saturday Ba defeated Cakaudrove 22-16 to win the B Division title at Lautoka's Churchill Park.
This earned Ba the right to face Macuata in the promotion-relegation match next month.
Ba last played in the major division in 1994.
Ba Rugby Union vice chairman Samuela Kautoga said they would take the promotion-relegation match seriously.
He said their goal was to get back into the top flight.
"We reached the B Division final in 2009 and lost to Malolo." Kautoga said.
"This is our first B Division win in the new millennium. Majority of the players from the 2009 squad are part of this team.
"We are focusing on getting back to the major union. Right from Tavua to Sigatoka, Ba is only district that is not in the major union. We hope that this is our time.
"Actually rugby in Fiji started in Ba. So it is only fitting that we play at the highest level.
"The aim was to win the B Division and we have done that.
"Now the focus is on the promotion-relegation."
The promotion-relegation will be held at Subrail Park in Labasa on October 5.
