THE National Golf Association of Fiji will hold a fundraising tournament at the Natadola Bay Championship Course next month.
Revenue collected during the one-day four-player team event will fund the Fiji team's trip to the prestigious Nomura Cup in Thailand in November.
The National Golf Association of Fiji has been forced to hold the fundraising event because there is no major sponsor for the national team.
The parent body held its annual general meeting at the Nadi Airport Golf Club on Sunday. No elections were held as all the office bearers were unopposed.
Sitiveni Rabuka will serve another term as president. Olaf Allen Sr is the vice president and Amitesh Chandra is the secretary.
Chandra said delegates from Fiji Golf Club, Nadi Airport Golf Club, Denarau, Natadola, Labasa and Pacific Harbour attended the meeting.
He said they recorded a deficit of $54,000 for the financial year.
"This is because we could not get sponsors on board for the national team participating in the World Cup in Turkey," Chandra said.
"Like any other sport we have to take part in international events to give our players the exposure they need."
"The cost had to be looked after by the association as these players are role models and ambassadors for Fiji."
"We are looking to turn things around before the next AGM and are now working on securing major sponsors."
The tournament will be held on October 20.
