PERSONAL reasons led Lohuni Kubunavanua to leave school before her exams in Form Seven.
The 20-year-old is optimistic that life has plenty of opportunities and she believes the Sugar Festival pageant is one of them.
The Ovalau native said she had a hard time after dropping out but knew hardships were part and parcel of life.
"Using the Sugar Festival platform, I want to show that it is not the end if a person drops out of school," Miss Kubunavanua said.
"There are other things we can take advantage of."
Miss Kubunavanua hopes to pursue a career in journalism.
"Ultimately, I want to become a journalist because I love writing, meeting new people and travelling.
"The message I will be giving to the public is equality. We here in Lautoka are closely knitted and it's a city where people find it easy to get around.
"I want to focus on that aspect and tell people if we work together, we can build a better nation with kindness and sincerity." She is sponsored by Sinopac.
