FIJI'S Sportsman of the Year Iliesa Delana finally received his Pacific Games Council award yesterday.
The Paralympic high jump gold medallist was named the Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year during the Pacific Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna where his coach Fred Fatiaki received the award on his behalf.
Delana said it was another proud moment for him.
"I thank the Lord for His strength in my life," he said.
"To become the first athlete with disabilities to receive this award is such a great achievement.
"I just want to tell other athletes with disabilities that nothing is impossible when we give our best in trying to accomplish things in life."
He hoped that his achievement could be a challenge for everyone who strive for success.
"Nothing is impossible. When we put God first and give our best at training, then it should not be a problem."
Delana was nominated after winning the Sportsman of the Year award in Fiji.
Fiji also scooped three other awards.
Matelita Buadromo was named the Outstanding Junior Athlete and Weightlifting Fiji secretary Lilian Amasa was named the Outstanding Administrator of the Year.
