A FORMER policeman charged with four counts of rape yesterday appeared in the High Court in Suva asking the court's assistance to allow him to be escorted to CWM Hospital for medical examination.
The 39-year-old, through his Legal Aid Commission lawyer Seremaia Savou, told High Court judge Justice Salesi Temo that he was suffering from internal injuries and he needed the court's assistance in allowing him to be medically examined.
Justice Temo, however, ordered that he be medically examined by the Fiji Corrections Service doctor and if the doctor recommended that he be taken to the CWM Hospital, then the corrections officers are to escort him to the hospital.
DPP lawyer Meli Vosawale said yesterday the state would be calling 10 witnesses altogether during the one-week trial.
Mr Vosawale said both the complainants aged 19 and 20 would be giving evidence in court.
It is alleged the man raped both complainants twice after a drinking party at the Nasinu cemetery on May 13 this year.
The matter has been adjourned to September 28.
