PEOPLE visiting the hidden paradise town will soon tread on a well-structured walkway now that the Savusavu Tourism Association has started initial stages of constructing a 0.6 kilometre walkway in the area. The walkway will be constructed from the municipal market to the proposed marina at the Savusavu harbour.
Yesterday, officials started marking the ground for the proposed project.
"This walkway will benefit everyone and we hope it will motivate our young people not just to exercise and enjoy nature, but to respect the beauty of the bay which we have been blessed with," a Savusavu Tourism Association statement said.
"The association is very grateful to the Minister for Health, Dr Neil Sharma and the Ministry of Health for their donation of $10,000.
"The Vodafone Friendly North Festival has pledged to underwrite the cost of benches and nestle has already positioned a milo mile fitness centre along this planned walkway."
Savusavu Town Council, the statement, said that it had donated all foreshore land, pledged labour, solar lighting and maintenance. The walkway will have safety bridges over the creek and drains.
"Police in Savusavu have also pledged a foot patrol along the walkway to ensure security and safety. Anyone who wishes to partner in this project in any way is asked to contact the association's secretariat."
