A PASTOR has been charged with obtaining money by deception from a hotel manager in Savusavu.
Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said the pastor from Labasa allegedly told the manager he was in the British Army based in Germany.
Insp Sokomuri said he stayed for a while with the manager and obtained a sum of $3700 from her.
"He asked the manager to give him $3700 for his dad's funeral and would pay back when he receives his money from Germany," he said.
"It is understood that when he returned to Labasa, the two continued to converse through Facebook and he would tell the manager that he was back home in Germany.
"But he was still in Labasa and lied to her about being in Germany or being part of the British Army."
Police urged the community to be vigilant when dealing with people.
The matter was reported to police after the manager found out the truth.
