GAUNAVOU was crowned as the champions of the Nadi Rugby Union Senior A knockout series yesterday. The Gaunavou team walked away with the KK's Hardware Shield after beating Saunaka 29-21 in the final at Prince Charles Park. Gaunavou led 12-3 at halftime. In the Foodhall Supermarket Senior B final, Dratabu White beat Momi 24-19 in sudden death play. This after both teams were locked 19-all at full time. In other results Abba defeated Dratabu Green 16-13, Vaturu downed Korobebe 12-8 and Police Boarder edged Tovolea 32-31.
THE Lautoka Primary Schools Rugby Union held an awards ceremony for its teams that participated in the Milo Kaji competition in Suva. The Junior Maroons reached the semi-finals in five of the six grades. The Lautoka Primary Schools Rugby Union has been boosted with a two-year $10,000 sponsorship from Courts and Sports World. Lautoka Primary Schools Rugby Union president Tirani Uluinakauvadra hailed this year's achievement as positive. "We presented certificates to 124 children," Uluinakauvadra said. "The plan now is to focus on development."
ARMY wrested the Design Engineering Shield from holders Vitogo at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday. The Army team with the inclusion of Lautoka skipper Peniona Ranitu defeated Vitogo 12-5. Army slotted four penalties while Vitogo scored the lone try. The match was replayed after Vitogo filed a protest against Army following the initial loss. Vitogo had claimed that Army had fielded unregistered players in the match. Despite the protest being disallowed Army agreed to the rematch.

With a farcical finish in which Kane Linnett was denied a try, when play continued with the clock stopped on 41 seconds remaining for an entire set, the Cowboys bowed out in heartbreaking fashion as the Sharks booked another sudden-death clash against the loser of last night's Manly-Sydney Roosters clash.
