BA edged closer to returning to the major rugby union after 19 years by beating Cakaudrove 22-16 in the B Division final at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday.
The win has earned the Gabrieli Naborisi-coached Ba team the right to play Macuata in the promotion-relegation series next month.
The final lived up to expectations with both teams opting to display free flowing rugby.
The last quarter was played at fanatic pace as Cakaudrove launched a full-scale attack trailing 11-22.
The Northerners managed to score a try to cut the deficit but Ba held on with a gallant defensive pattern until the final whistle.
Ba last featured in the top flight in 1994 under the guidance of former national rep Isikeli Cagilaba.
Naborisi said they had to brush up on a few areas before the promotion-relegation.
He said his boys would need to lift their discipline after halfback Apisolome Nario was sent to the sin-bin in the first half.
"I'm very happy and would like to thank the Almighty for giving the strength to the boys to achieve our mission for the day," Naborisi said.
"We made a few mistakes. Our general play wasn't that pretty and there were many turnovers. Discipline is one area that we will need to work on.
"We would like to thank the tikina of Bulu and Nailaga for their support. With the team reaching the final many of the business houses in Ba are now showing their support.
"Ba is a soccer crazy town but we want to prove that we can also play the oval ball game at the highest level in the country."
Cakaudrove team manager Pita Ralaca said Ba capitalised on their mistakes.
"We gave away needless penalties that Ba converted," Ralaca said.
"Our kicking game was poor. We also missed some penalties which made the difference at the end.
"Ba proved to be the better team on the day. We will now have to turn our focus towards next year and wish Ba all the best for the promotion-relegation."
Ba fullback Jone Naio collected a personal tally of 11 points with a try and two penalties. Aporosa Qata scored the other try while Vatiliai Turuva kicked two penalties.
Flanker Naibuka Bola and captain Lepani Waqa scored a try each for Cakaudrove. Kitione Kamikamica and Paulo Baleinakama kicked a penalty each.
Ba led 14-8 at halftime. The promotion-relegation will be held at Subrail Park in Labasa on October 5.
