HEALTHY living and wellness were promoted in style in Savusavu Town as members of the public gathered for a two-day mini-carnival.
The carnival which ended yesterday was aimed at spreading the gospel of promoting wellness and ensuring a healthy lifestyle.
Health Ministry spokesman Shalvin Deo said it was the first time such an event was held in the area.
"Too often, creating awareness of healthy living is done in the form of a workshop or training but this is something new as we included exciting activities for the community," he said.
"We are trying to liven up our program because it's one way of luring people to come and listen to health tips we prepared for them.
"Students from schools in the area also took part in an oratory contest to speak more on health issues and related diseases and illnesses."
Mr Deo said it was also an opportunity for locals to take advantage of free medical services provided at the event.
"Now, we just don't want to inform people through workshops but create exciting activities so people can make an effort to come and be part of it.
"That way, they will learn more and practise what they are told in terms of keeping healthy at all times."
The mini-event carried the theme 'Celebrating wellness across the life span'.
