THE Namosau Race Course in Ba will be the centre of attraction on Sunday with the revival of the horse racing by the Ba Town Council.
The one-day carnival sponsored by Geckos Trucking Fiji Limited is expected to attract horses from Nadi, Lautoka, Ba and Tavua.
Ba Town Council special administrator Praveen Bala said the Namosau Race Course had a rich history.
Bala said the first carnival was hosted back in the 1930s.
He said they would be collecting more background information on races at Namosau before publishing a book.
"Horse racing is being revived in Ba," Bala said.
"We would like to thank our sponsor for supporting the sport. There will be prizes for the winners.
"The revival of the carnival has an emotional side tied with history dating back to the 1930s.
"There are some prominent names like late Sir Hugh Ragg, Vince Costello and others who have been part of it.
"To pay tribute to these people and to restore the history of Namosau Race Course, we will publish a book detailing the events on typical races and other information."
The races will start at 11.30am.
