AN Indian talk show program has prompted a group of Lautoka women to take an active role in addressing child abuse issues.
Inspired by Hindi TV show Satyamev Jayate, women from Soroptimist International Lautoka began child abuse awareness programs from July this year.
SI Lautoka president Ranjini Sanjay said they were actively involved in addressing child abuse and already, the group had been to four kindergartens in Lautoka since the start of the program.
"We saw the show and one of the episodes was about child abuse where actor Aamir Khan had a body chart for children and told them of the areas of their bodies no one was allowed to touch," she said.
"In many of our cultures, we are forbidden to tell these things to our children but we must protect them from being abused."
Mrs Sanjay said the children were aware of who they needed to contact if they felt something was wrong.
Their latest visit was to the Lautoka Methodist Kindergarten yesterday, where 30 children participated.
She commended the parents' support for their children, adding that a parent has suggested they move into the communities so more people can benefit.
