POLICE have apprehended Josua Naivalu yesterday from Wailotua in Wainibuka, Tailevu.
Naivalu, 34, escaped from the Suva Magistrates Court on Tuesday after he was sentenced by the magistrate.
Assistant commissioner of police Rusiate Tudravu said they were thankful to the villagers of Wailotua for apprehending the escapee.
He said the villagers had locked Naivalu inside their community hall after they found out that he was in the village and contacted officers at the Korovou Police Station.
"What the people of Wailotua did was in the true spirit of the duavata community policing that we've been talking about," he said. An internal investigation into Naivalu's escape has started.
