STRONG leadership in families is critical to ensuring the safety and security of children in the future.
This was the message from Defence Minister Joketani Cokanasiga while launching the duavata community policing in Nasinu yesterday.
Mr Cokanasiga said fighting crime in communities was not impossible and challenged families to ensure strong leadership was present in their homes.
"It is therefore incumbent on us and critical to ensure the safety, security and prosperity of our children and grandchildren, of our future, irrespective of your place in the community," Mr Cokanasiga said.
He said the duavata initiative should be applauded as it was an avenue for the community to work with the police.
"The concept of the duavata model in three words is trust, respect and confidence. Indeed for a safer, secured and protected Fiji, the three words are important not only for the communities but also for the Fiji Police Force."
