ONE of the smallest but most active foundations in Suva at the moment is the Suva Harbour Foundation (SHF), made up of members of the public who are concerned about the welfare of the Suva Harbour.
Established in 2004 after a grant by the Wildlife Conservation Society, the organisation aims to improve the environment of the Suva Harbour through the expertise it encompasses.
President of the foundation Colin Philp is supported by a board of directors who come from backgrounds in awareness campaigns, scientific studies, water sports, fisheries, and the Fiji Navy, the company statement noted.
"The Suva Harbour forms a beautiful ocean backdrop for Fiji's Capital City. The harbour, however, is becoming increasingly polluted by sewage, solid waste, oil spills, and abandoned ships," it read.
"The SHF attempts to highlight harbour environment issues and focus public attention on ways to make improvements."
