HUSBAND and wife Shayne and Torika Brodie boarded flight number FJ2101 hand in hand not knowing that they will return to Fiji 13 days later with three gold medals from the Pacific Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna.
The Brodies won the individual and team gold for Hobie Cat sailing in the Mini Games and also won the Oceania title.
The win is the perfect gift for the couple who will be celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary next Friday.
"We have been sailing for more than 10 years now. Even before we were married," said Shayne Brodie.
The 40-year-old has been sailing since 1980 while Torika, 36, since 2003.
"Sailing is part of our life. There is not a single weekend where we do not go sailing. It also acts as a stress relief for both of us," added Torika. Shayne lost his mother in July this year.
"Shayne's mother was his biggest supporter. There was not a race where she would not be. This win is also for her," she said.
"Her passing away was also a motivator for the both of us."
The Brodies will return today and take a well deserved rest but remain focused on the 2014 World Championships in Australia in January.
