AUSTRALIA-based Archie Watkins will feature for Nadroga at the IDC next month.
This comes as a major boost for the Joseph Nand-coached side following their impressive outing at the recent Battle of the Giants tournament where the men from the Coral Coast finished third after beating Labasa 1-0. They drew with Nadi, beat Suva in pool play and then narrowly lost to Design Engineering Lautoka Blues on penalties in the semi-final.
Watkins, who migrated to Australia with his family earlier this year, confirmed to Times Sport his availability to feature for his home team.
His father Abraham Watkins led Nadroga to its first-ever IDC triumph at the National Stadium in 1988 and a month later steered the Fiji team to a stunning 1-0 win over the Australian Socceroos in a world cup qualifier in Nadi.
Nadroga coach Nand is looking forward to a bigger and better performance at the IDC saying they started training this week.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) has announced that the players for the South and West sides to feature in the FIFA World Cup trophy tour match this month will be decided through public voting.
Fiji FA vice president Tarunesh Reddy said national U20 coach Ravinesh Kumar will be in charge of the West side and Rewa coach Marika Rodu for the South.
Reddy said the public could vote by texting the name of the player, West or South to 9960522 or 8663934.
"From all the voting a list of 18 players will be selected for each respective team," he said. Players should be an active club or district representative."
Voting closes on September 15, 2013. The match will be played on September 21 at Churchill Park.
