THE national 7s team is awaiting approval from the Fiji Rugby Union to include two members from the Team Fiji squad to strengthen its bid to win gold in the Pacific Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna.
The Alifereti Dere-coached side was not able to use Jone Wainiqolo of athletics and weightlifter Tevita Tawai for their games yesterday at the Kafika Stadium.
The two were called into the side to make up the numbers with the Fiji team arriving on Saturday with only nine players.
Wainiqolo and Tawai have concluded their competition.
The two can feature for Fiji because they are part of Team Fiji, however, the team management needs approval from Rugby House in Suva. FRU was last night trying to contact the team in Wallis to discuss the issue.
Fiji 7s team manager Isei Rayawa said the two were training with the side and have jelled in well with the players.
"We are waiting for FRU approval so we can have these two play," he said. "They did not play today (yesterday) but we are hoping they can tomorrow (today)."
Meanwhile, the Fiji sevens side beat the hosts 32-0, thrashed Tuvalu 55-0 in their second match and then beat Tonga 24-0 at the PMG.
Rayawa said he was happy with the wins but said players were not sticking to the game plan.
"We have reminded the boys time and again to stick to the game plan but it's still the same problem — individual play.
"At times this really killed our game and so we will go back and talk to the boys about it."
Fiji will play Papua New Guinea at 9.30am, Samoa at 10.40am and New Caledonia at 11.55am in their last three round-robin matches today.
The top two teams will contest for the gold medal.
"We are looking forward to playing against the two sides. Samoa will be tough."
