THE Japanese Government has committed more than $300,000 in grants to two projects in Fiji.
Charge d'affairs of the Japanese Embassy Kinzo Nakagun last week signed grant contracts with representatives from the Chanel Home of Compassion and Rotary Pacific Water for Life Foundation, as part of the Japanese Government's Grass-roots Human Security Project Program.
From this amount, $198,000 will go to the Chanel Home of Compassion, which will go towards a general expansion and construction of a special nursing care facility for residents.
The Rotary Pacific Water for Life Foundation received $112,000 for a project which will provide sanitary water to five villages in Ra.
Mr Nakagun paid tribute to the organisations, saying "it is through the work, vision and achievements of the elderly that we tend to benefit and prosper today."
"In its short existence, the Rotary Pacific Water for Life Foundation has completed many projects delivering safe drinking water to thousands of people," he said.
