CONSTRUCTION of houses at Kenani for villagers of Vunidogoloa in Cakaudrove will resume this week, says acting commissioner northern Alipate Bolalevu.
Mr Bolalevu was responding to queries by some villagers on why construction work ceased four weeks ago.
"The building materials are expected to be delivered to the site sometime this week and we are also expecting work to begin straight away," he said.
"Fourteen houses have been built at the site so far and another 16 are scheduled to be built. This is for the 140 villagers relocated to the new site."
Vunidogoloa Village is the first in the country to be relocated as a result of rising sea levels.
Kenani is about one kilometre inland from the current village site.
Mr Bolalevu earlier said a number of villages in the North were affected by rising sea level.
