THE 10 government telecentres around the country has registered 31,500 people using it free of charge.
Speaking at the opening of the new telecentre in Seaqaqa yesterday, Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said such high usage meant more Fijians were being empowered.
"So this is a wonderful initiative that is empowering ordinary Fijians by giving them access to the latest technology both to acquire knowledge and communicate more freely," he said.
"If you use your imagination, the opportunities are really endless.
"And you can also keep up with the news during perhaps the most exciting time in Fiji's history. You can find out for yourself what is happening, not rely on information that is second-hand and may be wrong."
Commodore Bainimarama will open four more new telecentres in Vanua Levu during his visit.
