TEAM Freedive is the new winner of the 30th Pacific Harbour International Game Fishing Club at the Pearl South Pacific Resort in Deuba yesterday.
The local team from Pacific Harbour dominated the tournament over the past three days.
Freedive took an early lead from the opening day, continued its fairytale catch into the second day before summing up another good catch in the final day to record an impressive 572.1 points.
Defending champions Lunesea from Namotu Resort failed to retain its title.
Lunesea had 411.6 points after the final weigh-in.
Kevlar Kat angler Patrick from Waidroka Bay Resort caught the biggest catch of the day. He caught a sailfish believed to weigh more than 70 kilograms before it was tagged and released.
Tournament organiser Mark Spurling congratulated Freedive for its efforts.
"The event was a successful one, congratulations to Freedive and every team that came to this event," he said.
He said more than 38 fish were caught, excluding the ones that were released after being weighed.
Spurling said Pacific Harbour had proven that it is one of the best venues for game fishing.
"Catching more than 38 fish is a good sign and it shows that Pacific Harbour is still one of the best places to host such events. We want to make this annual event a big one like in the past years."
Spurling thanked the Pearl South Pacific Resort for its support in sponsoring and hosting the event this year.
